How Follow for Discount Works for Shopify
Follow for Discount connects a storefront promotion, an Instagram DM interaction, and a Shopify discount reward in one campaign.
The campaign loop
From storefront visit to verified Instagram follower
The merchant controls the offer. The shopper completes the verification and copies the reward into checkout.

Connect Instagram
Connect one Instagram Business or Creator account to Follow for Discount.

Configure the reward
Choose a fixed percentage discount or a randomized percentage up to your selected maximum. Set the code expiration and repeat-reward rules.

Promote the offer
Enable the theme app embed and publish an eligible storefront widget while the campaign is Live.

Verify the shopper
The shopper opens Instagram DM and uses the offer Ice Breaker or sends DISCOUNT. The app checks whether the shopper follows the connected account.

Deliver the code
An eligible shopper receives a reward explanation followed by a separate, code-only Instagram message. The single-use code is copied into Shopify checkout.

What happens after a shopper selects a widget?
The storefront sends the shopper to Instagram. Follow verification and reward delivery happen through the connected account’s DM conversation—not inside the Shopify storefront.
- An eligible widget appears on the Shopify storefront.
- The shopper selects the widget’s Instagram action.
- Instagram DM opens in a new browser tab.
- The shopper uses the configured Ice Breaker or sends DISCOUNT.
- Follow for Discount checks whether the shopper follows the connected account.
- A non-follower receives follow instructions and can retry.
- Every recognized retry checks follow status again.
- An eligible shopper receives a short reward explanation.
- A separate message contains only the single-use discount code.
- The shopper copies the code and enters it manually at Shopify checkout.

Before going Live
Four conditions make widgets eligible
Saving a widget does not make a paused campaign Live. The app checks the complete activation state before serving the storefront experience.
- The campaign is Live.
- An Instagram Business or Creator account is connected.
- The app embed is enabled and saved in the active theme.
- An eligible widget is configured and saved for the current plan.
