How Instagram follower verification works
Follow for Discount checks whether the requesting Instagram user follows the merchant’s connected professional account before issuing an eligible reward.
Recognized requests
The verification flow begins in Instagram DM
A shopper reaches the merchant’s Instagram conversation from a storefront widget. The shopper then selects the configured Ice Breaker or sends the exact uppercase message DISCOUNT.
Unrelated Instagram messages and unrelated buttons do not begin the discount flow.

If the shopper does not follow
The shopper receives the merchant’s follow-first message and a retry button. Follow status is checked again on every recognized retry.
Account requirements
One Business or Creator account
The merchant connects one supported Instagram Professional account. Personal Instagram accounts are not supported by the verified connection flow.
Authorization boundary
Authorization occurs on Instagram. Follow for Discount does not receive or store the merchant’s Instagram password.
Eligibility rules
Verification does not guarantee every request receives a code
An eligible result also depends on campaign status, the Instagram connection, plan usage, and the merchant’s repeat-reward setting.
- The campaign must be Live.
- The supported Instagram account must remain connected.
- The request must use a recognized message or retry action.
- The shopper must follow the connected account.
- The repeat-reward setting must allow another reward when applicable.
- The Basic monthly unique-user limit must not block a new unique user.
