How single-use Shopify discount codes work
Follow for Discount generates an app-managed code for an eligible Instagram follower, sends it through Instagram DM, and limits that code to one use.
Code creation
Eligible rewards begin with FFD
App-generated codes begin with FFD. Each generated code is created for single use, even when the campaign permits the same Instagram user to receive another reward.
The merchant can choose a fixed percentage or a randomized percentage up to a configured maximum. Fixed-amount rewards are coming soon.
Instagram delivery
The code arrives in a copy-friendly message
An eligible shopper first receives a short reward explanation. The next Instagram message contains only the discount code.
Reward explained
Instagram DM tells the shopper what reward was issued.
Code sent separately
A code-only message makes the reward easier to copy.
Shopper enters the code
The shopper manually applies it in Shopify’s discount field.
Expiration
Choose 1, 3, or 7 days—or no expiration
The selected expiration rule is applied when the code is created. A no-expiration reward remains valid until another Shopify rule or merchant action affects it.
Manual checkout entry
Follow for Discount does not automatically apply the code at checkout. The shopper copies it from Instagram and enters it in Shopify’s normal discount-code field.
Reporting boundary
Issuance is not the same as redemption
Discount Logs let a merchant review issued rewards. They do not currently establish whether a code was redeemed or connected to an order, refund, cancellation, or attributed revenue.

- Code redemption is not established.
- Order and revenue attribution are not provided.
- Refunds and cancellations are not tracked by the logs.
